Foreign nationals that are citizens from visa exempt countries will be issued with a visitors visa when they present their passport to immigration officials at a port of entry in South Africa.

Foreign nationals holding citizenship from countries that are not visa exempt must apply for a visitors visa from their closest South African Embassy.

The visitors visa is renewable in South Africa. The maximum time a foreign national can remain in South Africa on avisitors visa is 180 days.

The visitors visa is for the purposes of a temporary stay and is limited to tourism related activities.

Staying for longer?

Immigration amendments effective May 2014 no longer allow foreign nationals to apply for a different visa while on avisitors visa in South Africa. The foreign national must apply for the correct visa prior to arrival in South Africa or return to their country of residence and apply for the correct visa.

  • DIRCO, SAQA, VFS and the Courts are closed.
  • The Department of Home affairs is working on skeleton staff, we expect no movement on new or pending applications.
  • The DHA have advised that foreign nationals will not be penalised on their visa conditions as long as the breach of visa conditions is a result of the lockdown.

Please feel free to call or email us with regards to the services and support we can provide for you during the lockdown period. Our office remains open with staff working remotely respecting and adhering to Government directives.
